The Javan rhinoceros is hairless, and the skin has a cracked and scaly appearance. The heavy folds of skin at shoulder, flank and knee are also more marked than is the case in the better-known species. In other respects this animal conforms nearly to the appearance of the Sumatran rhinoceros.
