[190] During Eardley Wilmot's Conservatorship in Oud Mr. P.H. Clutterbuck (later Inspector-General of Forests) was in charge of the Gorakhpur Forests, which were separated from Bengal by the Gundak River. He there shot the last surviving buffalo and also the last rhinoceros, which had wandered down from Nepal, killed in this district.

Sir Sainthill Eardley-Wilmot (1852-1929) was Conservator of Forest in Oudh 1890-1899
Eardley-Wilmot, S., 1910. Forest life and sport in India. London, Edward Arnold, pp. i-xi, 1-324 – states that he was given a piece of the skin of this rhinoceros which he then sold to a golfer to faced his drivers with the material.
Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Peter Henry Clutterbuck (1868-1951), was Conservator of Forest from 1913.
