Lydekker in Brehm states that R. sondaicus, if not smaller, certainly is lighter built than R. unicornis. It seems that very old examples of R. sondaicus are not much smaller than unicornis, although it is known from other large mammals like elephant, banteng and tiger that those from the Indian archipelago are larger than those in the Indo-Australian archipelago.
