Skin biopsies were grown from two animals of southern race at San Diego Zoo. Pairing of chromosomes is arbitrary. Karyotype found was 2n=84. Previously this species is reported to have a karyotype of 2n=82, with one less submetacentric pair (Heinichen).
2n= 84. Autosomes: 18 submetacentrics, 64 acrocentrics. Sex chromosomes: X submetacentric, Y acrocentric.
