About 1936, animal keeper Willi Roelvinck (since 1939 in Cologne) saw a specimen of Dicerorhinus sumatrensis, possibly in Cologne, rpobably exhibited by trader Schulz as part of an animal show. He especially remembers the woolly coat like the mountain tapir. This is remarkable as earlier only specimens were known in Sch?nbrunn in 1919 and in Basel in 1959. But even earlier, between 1863 and the end of the century, a Sumatran rhino was shown in the zoo in Cologne.
