The most recent measure taken is setting up the Sumatran Rhino Breeding programme. The Howlett and Port Lympne Zoo is well known for experience in breeding wild animals in captivity. The first stage will include the capture and breeding of 4 pairs of Sumatran rhino. Two pairs will be kept in England and other 2 in Indonesia. The ongoing capture operation so far has succeeded in capturing 5 animals in Torgamba area in Riau province. The capture is carried out in a destroyed and doomed rhino habitat which is no longer possible to rehabilitate. The forest area is being converted to oild palm plantations. 5 rhino have been captured, 1 death. A pair has been sent to Howlett and Port Lympne Zoo, 1 young male to Jakarta Zoo.
