in 1829. In the menagerie of Barrackpour, I visited the rhinoceros. It is an adult specimen of the Unicornis species. He came from the mountains on the other side of the Ganges. His size is the same as the one in the Paris Museum. It is chained around his legs to a tree. It eats plants. His skin is regularly bathed in oil. Twice the animal almost escaped.
