Original text on this topic:
Black rhino is fairly numerous. It is the home of the white rhino, which nowhere else on the continent (except near the Blue Nile) can be seen. It is exceedingly difficult to compute their numbers even approximately, but I consider that there are between 30 and 40 adult animals actually resident in the Reserve, as well as a useful number of calves. Some of them occasionally cross to the south of the White Umfolozi, and it is true that at any time a number of these animals may be encountered there outside the reserve, some of which at least are probably resident outside. This fact led to the extension of the Game Reserve to the boundaries provided for under Government Notice No. 322 of 1907, but owing to complications which subsequently arose in connection with the occurrence of Nagana, last year it has reverted temporarily to its old boundaries between the Umfolozi Rivers.
