Translocations started in 1981, occurred in stages and involved 24 animals in total.
In June 1996, 9 black rhino were translocated to Madikwe GR.
1981, 7 arrived from Hluhluwe/Umfolozi
1982, 4 arrived from H/U
1983, 8 arrived rom H/U
1989, 5 arrived from Mkuzi - 3 males, 2 females; the 3 males died within months.
