Original text on this topic:
Kinabalu National Park, created under National Park ordinance of 1962, area 275 sq. miles. It is known to be the haunt of the Sumatran rhino, which has been senselessly hunted over centuries. It is hoped that the establishment of the national park will help in its re-establishment. In 1961 the Royal Society expedition found tracks of the rhinoceros high up on the eastern ridge of the mountain. An unauthenticated report of 1970 also recorded tracks high up on Mt. Tambuyokan (a mountain of 8426 ft within the park boundaries).
