results of survey December 1997. 169 people contacted. 24 new populations recorded, 5 could not be traced, 2 owners did not cooperate. A minimum total of 1494 white rhino is in private possession, on 162 ranches. There are a further 248 rhino on the private reserves which have removed fences between them and Kruger NP.
