The shooting of rhinoceros is now prohibited under the game laws, but such legislation has little effect on the native poacher. It is difficult to decide how best to protect an animal which is already so scarce and invested with such value. The solution probably lies in an increase in the extent and the number of game sanctuaries and the proper protection of the same.
