Javan Rhino |
Rhinoceros sondaicus. This rhinoceros is one of the rarest mammals in the world, and has been seldom shot or seen by any sportsman. Indeed, in Burma, there is no authentic record of its shooting, except in one instance, viz. a specimen shot and presented to the British Museum some years ago by Mr. T. Hubback, of the Federated Malay States. This animal was shot in the Mergui District in southernmost Burma.
