Heuglin was unable to enumerate all species of rhinoceros occurring in the southern Sudan. However, from a large number of horns which he saw, as well as observing one adult and one young animal, the following species can be mentioned.
1. Opsiceros keitloa A. Smith - in North and West Abyssinia
2. Opsiceros bicornis Linn. - In East Abyssinia and towards Somalia
3. Opsiceros simus Burchell - on the Bahr-el-abiad
4. Dicerorhinus cucullatus Wagn. - in the mountains.
