Original text on this topic:
A comprehensive identikit and record of hook-lipped rhino of Damaraland has been drawn up by field officers of the Namibia Wildlife Trust and Nature Conservation Officers of the Skeleton Coast Park. The data recorded has proved most valuable and an accurate preliminary report on numbers of known hook-lipped rhino in Damaraland has revealed that the numbers presently occupying areas within the proposed game reserve limits are 35 known animals, with the possibility of there being more than those so far recorded. However, there are five rhino which have been recorded on farms outside of the proposed reserve area and these animals are in danger of being poached as they are vulnerable to easy access by road in the farming areas. It is a matter of some urgency that they be moved as soon as possible to safeguard their lives. The operation would be fairly costly and would need to be undertaken by the Department of Agriculture and Nature Conservation, who would be able to move them to better protected areas.
