During the 1960's and 1970's, the Natal Parks Board helped to reintroduce white rhino into Chobe, where they had not been seen since 1890. More than 50 white rhino were released into the park during that time. In 1981, a population of nearly 100 was estimated, but a 1991 survey revealed that only 20-30 remained.
