In West Kalimantan, B?ttikofer found tracks and fresh droppings on the higher slopes of G. Liang Kubung, upper S. Kapuas, although not in the surrounding plains; he also reported that Malay rhino hunters were active, and regretted his own bad luck in not getting a specimen (Jentink, 1897). In 1907, Abbott (quoted by Lyon, 191lb) noted reports of rhinoceros from coastal locations in more southerly parts of West Kalimantan.
