The number of rhino is variably estimated as 150 (mr C.G. Baron), 100 (the Conservator), 40-50 (the Divisional Forest Officer) and 8-9 (Mr Salim Ali and Dr Dillon Ripley, who saw the tracks of only two during their six day visit to the western portion of the sanctuary). There is obviously scope for further investigation. Pending more information on the matter, it would not be unreasonable to put the figure at 45.
