Poaching is a serious problem as the Sanctuary is surrounded by villages from all sides and the rhinos stray out of the park for foraging.
1987-1993, 18 out of 29 deaths due to poaching (4 due to electrocution)
18 % of death due to flood, 6 from illness, 2 from fighting.
