A newspaper report stated that a female rhinoceros was shot dead at kampong Tasik China after it had terrorised the village. A villager, Inche ismail bin Abdullah, shot the rhino after the kampong people had chased it around the area for an hour. The rhinoceros, weighing about 300 lb. Appeared at about 7 am and sent about 20 school children and kampong folk for shelter. Inche Musa bin noordin, the Kelantan game warden said that the rhino probably came from the Gua badak Forest Reserve, about 5 miles from Rantau Panjang.
Since the animal was said to be 300 lbs and the locality in North Kelantan, the animal probably was a young tapir.
