Original text on this topic:
The Naryani River, flows south through Chitwan and on to the ganges. Chitwan is largely dependent on the Naryani as a source of food and water. But the river is no longer pristine, a brown stain in the water can be seen for many miles. The human population along the river and upstream from Chitwan has increased dramatically. The inevitable deforstation has followed along with an increase of agriculture and industry. A particular concern is the effluent from a recently coinstructed paper mill, and the road through the forest along the banks of the naryani. An enormous amount of water, 250 cubic meters/minute is drawn from the river. Five percent is consumed, the rest is poured back in the form of a dark, foul-smelling effluent. A report will be presented to the nepalese government.
