Since 1900, it does not seem to have been met with anywhere than in the SE of the Tchad district and in the NE of Oubangui Chari, mostly along the Aouk River. In the course of time it was annihilated even here and since 1931 it has not been possible to find a single specimen or even traces of one.

We need to note a lapsus by Malbrant, when he says that the black rhino was common in Baguirmi in Chad (not Bamingui in Oubangui-Chari, CAR) 35 years ago, because the second edition of his book (1952) says 15 years ago, just like the first edition (1936).
