Rhinoceros bicornis is part of the fauna of Bornu, but quite rare and has only a restricted area of distribution. Only indigenous in the low lying country on the Shari and Logone, especially in the Kung Bush south of about 10 degrees north.

On both banks of the Schari River the rhinoceros and buffalo occur. The rather common rhinoceros at the middle Schari is the Rh. bicornis, with narrow trunk-like upper lip.
