A Sumatran rhinoceros lived in the zoo for 4 ? years after its arrival in 1876. Later, in March 1884, two other Sumatran rhino were exhibited. |

In 1880 the zoo started with the construction of a new Pachyderm House under the supervision of architects Haller and Lamprecht. Late March 1881 its new inhabitants moved in, an Asian elephant (in zoo 1871 -1907) and an Indian rhinoceros 'Begum', in the zoo 1870-1900. |
