Cartoon for Flemish tapestry |
Author: |
Pieter Coecke van Aelst |
Year: |
1549 |
Description: |
This preparatory cartoon for a tapestry has an 'Animal Park' theme. It is by the Dutch painter Pieter Coecke van Aelst (1502-1550), who also had a tapestry business in Antwerp and Brussels. He was possibly the teacher of Pieter Brueghel the elder, who married his daughter. The cartoon is of interest in that it is one of the earliest reproductions of the Dürer rhino after the engraving by Enea Vico of 1548. |
