Buffon 1798 |
Author: |
Buffon |
Year: |
1798 |
Description: |
This print from a 1798 supplement to Buffon's Histoire naturelle shows the original Oudry impression of the Indian rhino above. Below it uses the false Bruce image for the African. Although the skull, taken from the Sparrman print is correct, Bruce simply put two horns on the Indian species. It was commonly held that all rhinos looked alike and horns varied from location and sex. |
