Original text on this topic:
FOR KILLER
A legend in the world of anti-poaching
Alert and aware as these cruel men were approaching
Quiet and obedient until Amos said ‘Let’s go’
Avoiding bullets and pangas, Killer would stun the foe
A fiercely loyal protector
Heaven help any intruder
Who tried anything in the dark
Killer would imitate the great black shark
His needs were simple, not a demanding dog
Two square meals a day
And the soft bed on which he lay
And always, always, ready for a jog
Killer has big, beautiful and trusting eyes
Which would light up when Amos, standing tall
Gave the 5am Kruger anti-poaching K9 call
When Killer would meet other dogs and their guides
He loved everyone in the K9 family
Other handlers could scratch him, quite happily
But Killer knew only too well
It was Amos to run to when he heard the dinner bell
Today we took him to the vet
One of the toughest days of our lives
Such a big brave dog and yet
The heart of a warrior and one that always forgives
But we all were comforted because we knew
That this very tough but gentle dog’s spirit flew
At peace and at last pain-free
New forests and oceans and friends to see
Whereas you could hardly see Killer in the dark of night
There is now a new star in the galaxy, burning bright
