Namibia. In the sandy course of the Tumas River, about 47 km inland from the Atlantic coast, I found a front horn of a rhinoceros on 3 January 1972. Geographic position: 22? 52 S, 15? 00 E.
Condition of the horn: apically well preserved; towards the base the surface is somewhat abrased. Colour: grey
Weight: 2550 g.
Dimensions:
Length along the front curve, 51.3 cm
Circumference of the base (which measures 13 x 11 cm) is 40.0 cm
Circumference at the start of the 2nd third, 30.0 cm
Circumference at the start of the 3rd third, 15.3 cm
Straight line from the middle of the base to the top, 46.5 cm
The horn is preserved in Museum Swakopmund, nr. N 7
