Full-page engraving with 13 pictures of animals arranged in three rows above each other, numbered 1 to 13, each animal standing on its own piece of ground with plants or a small tree, all finely coloured by hand. The explanatory titles to the numbers are engraved underneath the plate.<br>A rhino (ca. 9 x 5.5 cm.), detail of a German popular children's print depicting animals like a giraffe, camel, elephant with an Indian on his back, a dancing bear, a tiger, a salamander, rhinoceros, hippo, ibex, chamois, wolf, and a tortoise. Paul Wolfgang Schwarz (1766-1815), was court engraver to the Dukes of Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld and worked as an engraver and print-seller in Nuremberg. Cf.
