I had a young boy ask me how many ribs do white rhinos have. I have tried to look up the info online with no success. Can any one here tell me, I am a new rhino keeper looking for info on their anatomy.

I waited to reply to your question because I knew that this week I would be sitting next to a white rhino skeleton in a museum. I have now counted the ribs of the white rhino and there are 18.

You can look at the photo of the specimen in this paper at the link: http://www.rhinoresourcecenter.com/index.php?s=1&act=refs&CODE=ref_detail&id=1165243991

Thank you so much for the answer and for the fascinating information. How spectacular it must be to see that paticular skeleton.
