Does anyone know of any long term study on the PREVETION of chronic hoof disease in Greater Indian Rhinos?
I'm begining a long term program at the Toronto Zoo with our 1.1 Indian Rhinos concerning the captive management, including regular hoof care (regular hoof trims and assesments) and exhibit/holding conditions and the possibility of reducing or preventing the occurance of any chronic hoof diseases.....
Any thoughts, ideas or similar studies......?

The first publication to consult about foot problems in the Indian rhino would be the thesis by Von Houwald

Have a look to see if she offers any practical suggestions in this or later publications

You should check out the Basel Zoo who have now addressed some of these damaging foot issues in Indian rhinos in an innovative approach to indoor and outdoor exhibits.

If you like I will dig it out for you!
