I work with a male white rhino who is approx. 13 years old who has apparently "lost his mind" over the past two weeks. He is housed with another male rhino who is also approx. 13 years old, but they do NOT have access to each other. They interact with each other when they are being shifted, but otherwise they are solitary. They have lived this way for approx. 8 years. Recently over the past two weeks one of our males has become aggressive not only to the other rhino, but to keepers, trucks, enrichment toys, everything! The other rhino has shown some aggitation, but only since the other rhino has become aggressive. In fact the "sane" rhino is very hesitant to pass the "crazy" rhino when shifting. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions, solutions, or at least other stories of keepers experiencing this too would be helpful. :-)
