Rhino Trek South Africa

Spend a week with Save the Rhino for a trekking challenge through some of South Africa’s most beautiful game reserves.

In the heart of the Kingdom of the Zulu, at the foothills of the Lebombo Mountains our journey will start. Our route, especially and exclusively designed for Rhino Trek South Africa, will take the trekking groups through some of South Africa's most stunning game reserves. As well as rhino, all these reserves also host various other big game such as elephant, buffalo, giraffe and hippo; not to mention being a birding “hotspot” with over 350 species present in this area.

With five days of trekking through these reserves, and camping under the stars, you can be assured of a true African experience and that you will be able to get up close and personal with some of the most amazing creatures to walk, swim and fly our planet. You will cover nearly 100kms in five days, trekking your way through savannah and the rolling mountains of this area. Participants must be capable of walking for up to eight hours per day in mild but humid conditions.

The aim of the trek is to raise money for Save the Rhino, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park and Project Rhino. Save the Rhino International works to conserve genetically viable populations of critically endangered rhinoceros species in the wild. Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is where rhino conservation started, and where all white rhinos across Africa and in zoos have come from. They now aim to duplicate its success by shifting its focus on the more endangered black rhinos. Project Rhino is an initiative by Wildlands Conservation Trust to place every rhino in South Africa under 24-hour GSM-based monitoring by fitting GSM transmitters into their horns.
